Monitoring Solitude

My recording of solitude as companion to human existence, without positive or negative characterizations, but with the (specific) gravity of existence. Referencing the desolate realism of Edward Hopper, the visual frame on which films like Wim Wenders’ road movies rely, the images balanced between the metaphysical and realistic of Andrei Tarkovsky, as well as the silent, fogbound environment of Piotr Dumala, I create interiors where the human figure is sometimes visually present, and at others implied by other means. My technique combines photographic material from my personal archive with digital collage painting and printing on Plexiglas
